From The Pastors Desk

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Co-workers in the Lord’s Vineyard:

 A man called John

For the past couple of days the Priests’ of the Diocese have been meeting in convocation under the leadership of our new Bishop, Glen John Provost.  An interesting conversation came up regarding his name.  He prefers to be called John over Glen.  As a result, during the Eucharist prayer we will use the name John.  When we address him formally we will call him Bishop Provost.

The Bishop gave us a great new insight into his vision for the Diocese.  One of the main areas in which he is very interested in is the religious education of our youth.  He will be putting a lot of consideration on accountability,  that is, i.e. making sure that our children have a good understanding of religious doctrine.

He has also been very busy in reorganizing the Diocese into four different ministries.  There will be a Secretary for Administration, Msgr. Harry Greig.  A Ministry for Pastoral Services which will be supervised by Msgr. Henry Mancuso.  There will be a Secretary for the Ministry of Christian Formation, which will be Father Whitney Miller.  The Ministry for Clergy and Religious will be Father Aubrey Guilbeau.  The big surprise came when he announced that Father Danny Torres will be the new Vicar General.  There was an audible gasp from the clergy followed by a round of applause.  This announcement was quite unexpected.

Increased Offertory Appeal

I must say that I am very pleased with the results of our offertory appeal.  Almost 150 families have responded pledging an increase of over $1700 a week.  Needless to say, I am deeply grateful since it will help us to forge confidently into the future.  What warms my heart the most is the fact that a number of new households have picked up the use of envelopes making a commitment to support the Lord’s house and it’s future.  Again, many thanks.

On a personal note

Some people have asked what happened to my shoulder.  It goes back to an incident in 1959 when playing baseball and sliding into home plate.  I was pinned between a 200 pound catcher and the plate.  That was three operations ago.  This recent operation was more extensive than anticipated; however, within a couple of months, God willing, I should be up to par.  Many thanks for your support and prayer.

May you enjoy this coming summer with your families.

Your Servant/Pastor

Father Joseph Gosselin, M.S
